Days of Change

A New Hope and Change | November 14, 2016

I don’t plan to make cracks at Donald Trump for the next 8 years. There’s some voting stuff and some of the early Trump news that I would like to post about. However, I lost my biggest comment maker and generally pissed off 75% of the readers I had by being negative about Trump.

There were two disturbing aspects about Trump for me. The first is that he wouldn’t win, but his presence would screw up a perfectly good election. Trump did win, but at the expense of all the other Republicans who probably could have beaten Hillary Clinton as well. The second problem is that Trump is a bad guy. Now other annoying and awful people like Scott Adams will gush about how he and Trump are able to make connections with people inside their bubble, but effective manipulation is not a character trait. Basically every president since Bill Clinton does that.

There are certainly bad guys who are conservative, but neither of them is Donald Trump or Steve Bannon. They have shown a propensity to purge their own ranks to build a collection of sycophants in their image. For Trump, it’s his kids with Ivana. For Bannon, it might be the creepy Milo Yiannopoulos.

However, this is democracy. The Republicans won, and success or failure will rest with them for the next 2 years. However, I would warn that the margins this year were slim and the GOP had no idea what 2006 would bring when Bush won reelection in 2004.
