Days of Change

The Tweet Read ‘Round the Internet | June 9, 2016

Whether you’re on conservative or liberal twitter, you probably read or read about this exchange today.

From what I understand, “Delete your account” on Twitter is the equivalent of saying “Die” to someone. This is the opening salvo in Clinton’s latest reboot of her campaign, now as the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party.

Clinton is engaging in what has been a valid strategy for a couple of weeks now. She’s going to act presidential while expressing what I imagine are her actual feeling about Donald Trump, i.e. “How in the hell did the Republicans pick him?” The campaign wants to take his campaign seriously but treat Trump himself as a joke.

For all the talk about Trump being some kind of political idiot savant, he lost his first caucus mostly because he didn’t understand strategy. In the general election, there are 50 state races, but they all happen on the same day. Romney took what might have been a winnable election in 2012 and lost in part because of bad strategy and ineffective use of data. Trump has no apparent strategy and has opposed the idea of using data at all.

Do I want Clinton to win? No. Do I want Trump to win? No. Whoever wins, it probably won’t prompt a permanent vacation to Canada for me. For the first time in a long time, I get to sit out most of this race, point out the idiocy of the man who made a mockery of the Republican Party and walk into the voting booth for Gary Johnson. At this end of all this, only the Libertarian Party’s future will be impacted by the popular vote.
