Days of Change

Misstate of the Union | January 13, 2016

One of the reasons I didn’t like Mitt Romney is that he was more destructive toward other Republicans than Barack Obama. Donald Trump is extremely harsh toward Obama, but he seems to have an arsenal of character attacks against the entire Republican Party. The 11th Commandment tries to keep the media from getting the kind of GOP feeding frenzy it desires.

Governor Nikki Haley have a media approved State of the Union response that chided Obama, but did a lot of hand-wringing over the Republicans going off the rails, especially in supporting Trump. This was not the forum for such criticism and was basically undermined by a Spanish-language version given by Republican Mario Diaz-Balart which included amnesty-friendly language. In short, Trump is hard on immigration because the Republican Party is soft.

There was also the actual SOTU which got record low viewership. Obama decided after 7 years to put a cure for cancer at the top of the bottom of his priority list. I suspect rates will go down as soon as life expectancy in the US drops to levels seen in countries with socialized medicine.
