Day 1111 – Still the One

What would it take to get Sarah Palin back?

The Republican voters have been moving from one candidate to another. Romney, Cain and New Gingrich have front-runner status. Perry and Bachmann are far behind. Ron Paul’s numbers are mostly a function of how much his supporters were able to game a poll. The rest aren’t even worth talking about. The aforementioned front-runners own about 50-60% of the vote at any one time. Each new flavor has kept some of their lead, but there is not one central figure.

What happens if a new contender enters the race? In the case of Rick Perry, he becomes a flavor of the week. Christie is about as ideologically conservative as Jon Huntsman. Jeb Bush is even more like GW Bush than Rick Perry, and no one likes Perry either. There’s not a whole lot of back bench left, especially since most of the presidential candidates in the GOP have been old. Mitt Romney is retirement age.

Sarah Palin has all the qualities to get voters excited and absolutely no establishment Republicans who want her to run. Romney is their guy. It’s probably why Pawlenty and Huckabee dropped out. The Republicans are going to have to fight hard and spend big to get Romneycare into office. He might even have to make Bachmann his running mate. The primary system started so that party members could pick their candidates. It would be nice if it worked that way.
