Day 259 – Breaking Bad

In 100 days, the president and Congress passed along about $20 trillion in financial obligations, including stimulus, bailouts, loan guaranteed and various monies that may or may not be paid back.

No wonder that before Day 200 (of the presidential term) Jackass has an approval rating below 50% and Democrats are being heckled in their home districts. Cap and Trade and the Health Care debacle are in serious danger of being DOA in the Senate.

Holding all the cards can be a dangerous thing. Bill Clinton was a pretty unpopular guy with a Democratic Congress. In 1994, Sen. Dole had a 60-40 lead over Clinton in approval polls. Representational government is a good thing, but divided government works pretty well, too.

This may be a breaking point in the administration. If the will of the people and not the president controls the actions of the Democratic majority, “I won” becomes a really ineffective slogan.
