Day 256

Jackass is making a lot of his taxes about choices with no real choice. Cigarette taxes? Choose not to smoke. Soda tax? Choose to drink water. Energy tax? Well, using less energy will be tough. We’ll have to see how that works out. It looks to be similar with health care.

Among other things, people will be given 3 choices. Go on the government system, use your existing plan or pay a stiff penalty if you choose to do neither. And when the first option is the cheapest, guess where people will go.

People who don’t believe in government handouts get berated when they take just one of the hundreds offered. Mine are centered around unemployment. I’ve taken Earned Income credit. Believe me, it didn’t even come close to the amount I’ve paid in Social Security. What are the chances I’ll see the same benefit levels at my retirement that people get now? Pretty damn low. I’m glad there are people who won’t even take an unemployment check because it’s a government handout. It’s just hard not to when you get taxed to death so other people take them.

That’s the thing. Every health care system in the world has problems. Either care is disproportionate or people don’t get it or you need money for good care or you wait for years to get a 1 hour procedure. People who aren’t on government insurance are affected by it.

So far, the feds are going to be the new HMO. That’s all this is. It will be financed by what I think is now the third tax on the “rich” in this administration. It’s not going to make health care any better. It will put everyone on Medicaid. Who has heard anything about the great care people on Medicaid get?
