Are we encouraging apathy by discouraging apathy?
After this year, there are a lot of people out there who think the Republicans did a bad job for the last few years and that the Democrats are doing an even worse job in the first few months. This led to a clean slate movement to remove everyone in office. Ignoring that many people still have a safe list of people they would keep, it creates a fundamental problem.
The purpose of negative campaign ads is to dishearten your opponent’s supporters, not encourage yours. By trashing all politicians, people are becoming disengaged from politics since everyone is dirty.
The American electorate is honestly pretty dumb. They vote for the taller guy in nearly every election. The more money a candidate has, the better their chances are to win. voting against “politicians” is a good slogan, but not a good plan. We need a positive message, not a spotlight on a negative one.
