Maybe I was wrong.
No, not about the president. Anyone who was wrong about Jackass is less trustful of him, not more. But I went to my first tea party and I may actually get it this time.
I was looking at the Tea Party movement as a national one. It is, but it is also a local one. These races where party makes very little difference are the breeding ground for the slime that makes its way to Washington. Like Giuliani in NYC, you stop the big crimes by stopping the small ones.
By 2010, there is a real chance that the local governments could face an onslaught of independent-minded citizens who want to take back control from elite groups and return it to the people. When you do that, you can take back the taxes, the budgets and the state. ACORN took over elections by putting their operatives in seemingly unimportant positions in state government. The national races can come later.
If that’s the case, I’m on board. Throwing someone onto the national stage as an independent US Senator is a Hail Mary pass at best. Putting up a candidate who has worked for a few years as an independent lends credibility. While I am pretty pissed off at national government, the local level has drawn my rage for years.
This is grass roots activity I can believe in.
