Day Fifty-Seven

Last day of 2008. Tomorrow begins the first year of Obama. At least I can be comforted by the fact Blagojevich will hang around his neck like an anchor for months to come.

Day Fifty-Six

Rod Blagojevich chose a replacement for Obama’s Senate seat. One of the candidate’s supporters was the man who beat Obama in his first run at politics. So, now we have Blago basically trying to take down Obama if he goes down. Oh yeah, this incoming president is much less scandalous than GW Bush.

Day Fifty-five

Pregnant unwed teenage daughter Bristol Palin gave birth to her son today. I put it this way because the online reports basically prove what sore winners the liberals are. Not only do they need to beat McCain/Palin, they seek to destroy the political career of Sarah Palin and salt the earth where she stood. And now, they can’t call her daughter pregnant anymore. The Cheeto crowd has irrefutable proof that Trig could not have possibly been Bristol’s child. In a year when she and the father are married, she’ll just be Sarah Palin’s teenage daughter.

Day Fifty-Four

So, I guess the news is that Caroline Kennedy is crashing and burning because she implied the New York Times reporters are lousy at their job. That improves my estimation of her.

Day Fifty-Three

Israel is trying to keep Hamas at bay in preparation for an Obama administration that will probably condemn Israel for letting themselves get blown up by Palestinian suicide bombers.

John McCain is a friend to Israel. Barack Obama is to Israel what he is to everyone else, standoffish and kind of creepy.

Day Fifty-Two

The subpoenas are starting to fly in the Blagojevich case and they’re falling on Obama’s team.

Day Fifty-One

Merry Christmas!

No news is good news.

And Happy Hanukkah (about halfway through, if I’m correct)

Day Fifty

I’d like to think my opinions are only presumably unpopular and not actually so. Even though I may change that today, I’m going to say Christianity is God’s greatest gift upon the world. The men who founded this country and their counterparts who brought modern democracy into the world were believers in Christ and his teachings. Freedom of religion was created by people who personally believed in the teachings of Christianity.

I’m not denigrating other religions per se. The fact remains that while people of all faiths participate in democracies all over the world, the ones in the forefront created it from a belief in Christian liberation theology. I think everyone should think about that today and tomorrow, whether they celebrate the birth of Christ or not.

Day Forty-Nine

The “Crap Sandwich” is really hitting the fan this week. $700 billion of TARP, $1 trillion of Obama spending and untold trillions in loans “backed” by the Treasury. Obama wants to spend this $1 trillion on the creation or retention of 3 million jobs. That’s over $300,000 per job. He’d have a better chance stimulating the economy by picking 10 million random households and giving out $100,000 to each.

News stories this week have focused on the fact that bailees cannot or will not tell them where the money went. The truth is that they didn’t have to. If you just skim the TARP bill, you see the first $350 billion is at the sole discretion of Hank Paulson. One man who worked at one of these lousy firms has control over 1/3 of an annual federal budget.

Now, the bailout package is getting the scrutiny it didn’t receive two months ago. Banks can’t account for the money. Financial institutions are still giving out bonuses and people are still losing their homes. So, why are liberals in the media outraged now? Because people now have concrete evidence that the economy is in bad shape and pissing away half a billion dollars really didn’t do anything to help.

Oh, how the liberals prodded the Republicans to pass this bill early on. They derided John McCain for suspending his campaign to negotiate it. And when the moderates gave up, they insulted the fiscal conservatives for standing up for their principles and voting no on the legislation. And eventually, most of the Congress sold out to a bill filled with shiny earmarks for everyone.

That vote may have killed the Republicans for the rest of this decade. Democrats are tax and spend liberals. They will tax you and your bosses. They will limit your freedoms. They will use government money, your money, to force their agenda. And when the Republicans stop doing that too, maybe we can get the country back.

Day Forty-Eight

So, Rahm Emanuel is completely innocent and the NY Times says Bush is solely responsible for the housing-inspired recession. This is what we’ll see for the next four years, of course. If the story makes Obama looks good, go with it. If it makes him look bad, rewrite it so it makes him look good. And if it makes him look suspicious, delete it from your website and make sure Google disappears it from the history.
